Buddha Jyanti

Today, in the year 623 BC, a prince named Siddhartha Gautama was born in Lumbini, Nepal. You will know him better as Buddha! Strangely however his birthday is celebrated on different dates in different countries, and at different dates each year. In Nepal it is celebrated on the date of the full moon in the month of Baisakh which this year is Baisakh 22nd (May 5th). In Japan however it is always celebrated on a fixed date, April 8th.

Today in Nepal our family will be visiting temples and eating rice pudding ……. thousands of young people will be walking to the top of Swayambhu …… tens of thousands of butter-lamps will be lit ….. incense will be in the air …. strong tradition, strong culture. What makes Buddha so great ….. read it here
