The journey to Mt. Everest is a cultural and spiritual experience for those engaging with the Sherpa people and one’s own spirituality. Every village, every house, every person ….. the air itself is imbued with Buddhism. Even the stones and the rocks are carved and painted with it and entering the village at 12,687ft you are drawn to the magnificent Thyangboche monastery. This describes one of my experiences:

Deep booming horns break
The Two Doctors
the silence of the mountains
I shiver though warm –
sunbeams dancing at the gate
the Rinpoche smiles with them
