Nuits St Georges is a tiny but famous wine village in the Cote de Nuits, Burgundy, France. The Clos des Langres is a walled monopole vineyard within the Domaine d’Ardhuy situated at Corgoloin between Beaune and Nuits St Georges and is planted only with vines of Pinot Noir.

There are two things that make this wine special. Firstly it is classed as only a “Village” wine without any premier or grand cru status and this makes it cheaper than its more auspicious neighbours. Secondly being a monopole it is managed solely by a single owner who controls the vines within biologique certification, so no pesticides, no insecticides and only organic fertiliser used. Adding these two things together makes it a bargain at €37 with its higher graded neighbours costing +50% more.

“The young red wine has aromas of cherry, strawberry and blackcurrant, and when matured, leather, truffle, fur, game. Notes of macerated fruits (prune) complete the picture. Muscular and vigorous, chewy and full-bodied, its structure is both well built and well-balanced and it is long in the mouth. It is most fully enjoyed after several years’ laying down which rounds it out and underlines its sensuality and breeding.” (Bourgogne Wines)
