A personal PhotoChallenge matching a story to a photo every day for 30 days with short tales of travel, mountaineering, Nepal, art, and a few personal ones too!
1. The creation of The Two Doctors
Once upon a time, we were students, PhD students in chemistry at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. If you don’t believe in fate ….. look away now!
Miss C was in Kathmandu, an employee in Nepal’s government laboratories. She decided to come to Britain to do a doctorate, applied to Loughborough University, and was accepted. But her boss said to her “Don’t go to Loughborough go to Strathclyde instead, the government will pay. So in 1968 she came to Glasgow to begin her PhD research under Professor John Ottaway.
Mr B was in North Wales, an employee of British Steel Corporation in the research laboratories. He decided to leave work and do a doctorate, applied to Loughborough University, and was accepted. But his boss said to him “Don’t go to Loughborough go to Strathclyde instead, the Corporation will pay”. So in 1969 he went to Glasgow to begin his PhD research under Professor John Ottaway.
You couldn’t make this up, met in 1969, married in 1971, still going strong 47 years later. The photo was taken of us in the Chemistry Department at Strathclyde in 1970 as we became Dr C and Dr B.

Thank you, hard to believe but every single word is true. Utterly bizarre! Wait till you see tomorrow’s, one a day for 30 days if I can keep it going. Not all personal ones though.

Believe it or not, I actually voted SNP that year living in Glasgow! My whole family had been socialist Labour voters and strict Methodists …. this was the start of my rebellion!
