It’s not about the wine! Postcard from Loire, France

Our travels renewed, some will be pleased to hear, as we arrive at Fontevraud L’Abbeye for a few days. The fact that the whole area is filled with plantings of Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc is a complete coincidence as we only come here so Dr C can spend every day shopping in Leclerc!

  1. Fontevraud – I recall a superbly restored abbey and the tombs of King Henry II, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine and his son Richard the Lionheart. The vineyards were an incidental background. We each come from our own individual perspective!

    • Our hotel is 10metres away from the Abbey entrance! We have been here before, wonderful village, wonderful Abbey, makes you feel like a Plantagenet! Henry, Eleanor, Richard and ….. John’s wife are buried here. But ….. here’s the mystery, where is John buried, what part of him was originally buried here, and why is in NOT here any more? Discuss!
