Today’s macro photography image is of an Anemone which were my late mum’s favourite flowers. I like to keep a few Spring and Summer flowering varieties in our garden as a lasting memory. She died in 2012 at the great age of 91 and had served in the military for the duration of WW2, rising to the rank of corporal and being based at Catterick Camp. This is where she met my dad who was a Coldstream Guardsman had just returned from Dunkirk. He had no rank, straightforward infantryman, only a rifle and a bayonet!
The Anemone is a genus of about 200 species of flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae, native to temperate zones. They are sometimes called “wind flowers,” with their name being derived from the Greek word anemoi, which in English means “winds”. I like that! However their structure is great for macro photography.

Thank you, yes she was, but I didn’t fully understand what my dad went through until I watched the recent unbelievable film, Dunkirk.
