Did you know: The Bayeux “thingy” is not really a tapestry?

It’s An Embroidery!

This lesson has been drummed into our family since our daughter memorised something from school when she was 8 years old, even reciting it when we first visited Bayeux 30 years ago!

She recited it again yesterday, my birthday, as we entered Reading Museum to see the full sized replica of the Bayeux Embroidery, a little known exhibit that was made by women embroiderers in 1885. You can pose as King William too! Read about it here Reading Bayeux Tapestry

It’s A Nepalese Restaurant!

We stayed for about an hour at the museum before moving off for lunch. “Did you know that Standard Tandoori in Reading is not an Indian restaurant, in fact it is a Nepalese restaurant serving classic Newar dishes such as Momo and Choyla.” (Oh give it a rest Shazza!). It’s a bloody good restaurant too and is one we first visited 30 years ago, same place, same owner. We took over two hours slowly enjoying 5 courses, chosen only one at a time when we’d finished the previous course. Check them out here at Standard Tandoori

It was a nice birthday treat and a grand day out. Can’t wait for Fathers Day when something called “A Question of Wine” is planned.
