WordPress Photo Challenge: Scale!

Dughla Bridge-Nepal Himalaya

Scale is a relative term, especially in relation to mountains, and it is only when you stand surrounded by or on top of Himalayan peaks you can fully appreciate this. I have been a lucky mountaineer, I began in the small peaks of Cumbria when I was young, then up-scale somewhat into Wales and Scotland. In middle age I graduated into the Alps of Austria, Switzerland and France. Then …… I was ready to stride amongst the Himalayan peaks of Nepal and to stand on top of a few at around 22,000 ft, next to the absolute monsters of 29,000 ft. And every time I went into the Solu Kumbhu region I was reminded of my insignificance as I crossed this bridge at Dughla as the torrent from the Kumbhu glacier smashed into boulders as big as houses. The scale of everything is overwhelming.

And then, you take that ONE photo that upstages the scale of the moraine around Dughla …… the peak of Ama Dablam with another mountaineer silhouetted against it as the sun goes down. Oh happy days!

  1. I don’t know whether it’s just me or if perhaps everyone else encountering problems
with your website. It seems like some of the written text within your posts are running off the screen. Can somebody else
please provide feedback and let me know if this is happening to them
too? This could be a issue with my internet browser because I’ve
    had this happen before. Kudos

  2. Love both these photos! Those boulders are so huge when you stand next to them. But when you’re underneath the mountain… you need your own personal pano vision to be able to see it all!!
