Combining a wine tasting with a cellar visit in Burgundy, especially in Beaune, is an absolute must for visitors here. It gives you a sense of the history as well as the scale of the wine making operations not only modern day, but also back as far as the 13th Century to the Cistercian Monks. Although I personally prefer tastings at small producers, the best cellars to visit are with the large negociant winemakers such as the Cheteau de Meursault or at Ropiteau in Beaune. At the latter you can take a tasting of 10 outstanding wines combined within a self guided underground tour and here are a few photos from yesterday’s visit, all without flash and in the actual light conditions.
Self guided works for me, I went back to the pommard three times, think I got my entrance fee back on that alone, a great tour 😀😀👍🏻

A really interesting visit and good value for the quality of wines they let you taste.
