The alternative Kathmandu
If this is your second visit to Kathmandu you may be in need of a few thoughts to explore the city further, understand it more, so you don’t just have a quick stay before shooting off to Pokhara, Solu Kumbhu etc. If this is your first visit then we hope to help you get more out of your trip and get out of the mainstream rather than following the hordes every day to Swayambhu, Pashpatinath or Durbar Square.
#6 Cash Bean and Fire!
Sounds like a pop group from the 1960s!
Knowing or not knowing where to find amenities in a new city can make or break the visit and I’m sure we all have experience of this. Basically this is about where to get good coffee with wifi, a good money exchange rate, and the best pizza in Kathmandu all within a 20 metres square.
All three can be found at Tridevi Marg at the entrance to Thamel just past the Garden of Dreams.
Himalayan Java
On your right going towards Thamel, upstairs. Local coffee bean, roasted on site, a café with plenty of sofas, a library, free wifi and excellent service. More than coffee, excellent cold drinks and milk shakes and ice cream too.
Himalayan Bank
A reputable bank with a small office opposite Himalayan Java coffee house. Often the best exchange rates in the area and conveniently located too.
Fire & Ice
Definitely the best pizzas and service in Kathmandu. Large and crispy, wide variety of toppings, small and large tables for groups. A wide and excellent choice of beers.

The Two Doctors 
Ha ha! ‘Cash, Bean and Fire’ 🙂 I’ve been to two out of the three. Missed the Fire and Ice pizzeria but made a point of trying out different Nepalese dishes.
